Lisa Boumstein-Smalley received her BFA and MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she was a recipient of the Exit Fellowship and nominated for the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation emerging artist award. She regularly exhibits her sculptural drawings. Commonly her work explores the white space between geology, gravity, and spirituality. Her subtle and quiet works contemplate the connection between materiality and infinite space.

She is a regular visiting artist, lecturer, and workshop host. When not in studio Boumstein-Smalley works as creative leader and Director of Consumer Insights and Trends at Ziba Design in Portland Oregon. Ziba design is a innovation company where Lisa works with companies and organizations through unique project-based collaborative processes to identify new ways of creating meaningful experiences for people.

Lisa Boumstein-Smalley was born in Skokie, Illinois, raised in Omaha, Nebraska and adulted in Chicago, Illinois. She lives with her husband, daughter, and dog near both the woods and the city in Portland, Oregon.
